被愛與被砌

曾生時常走錯角色，在領導人面前虛怯僵硬，在群衆面前卻高傲過頭，官威十足，問題是我們都從一部錄影機看的片段，角色前後不連，這台戲還要多演兩年，未完場就要回水退票。

我有一建議，全速為自己塑造一新角色，天天排練，技術全面時，再調整心態，下台時一心一意為民而退。說真的我真有幾分懷念董生，交朋友嘛，笨拙的人受歡迎，精明的朋友最令人疲累。

Is it just me, or a really unusual sense of silence among Western media on the possible social/political/economical symbolism(s) of the “last domino” — the one with Chinese calligraphy on it, which remains standing at the end during the recent celebration in Berlin?

Update (11.19.2009): thanks fellow blogger Pakkin for the detail. The characters on the last domino weren’t Chinese afterall; They are artistic fusion of English alphabets written in Chinese calligraphy style, rendering a German translation of the Chinese poem 《釵頭鳳》by 陸遊.

關於奧巴馬獲諾貝爾和平獎

美國總統 Barack Obama 剛嬴得本年的諾貝爾和平獎。

請恕我直言，我覺得很意外。

若說他向穆斯林世界伸出友好之手，我同意，但要走出一點可見的成果，我會說，他的路，仍然漫長。

我同意不少評論，說這獎是對Obama的一種鼓勵，希望他帶領各國，日後在這方面再加重力度。

然而，若是如此，諾貝爾和平獎就變成一種手段，要讓這位得獎總統，有點勢成騎虎之壓力。

而這也不再是獎項，卻是對得獎者的政治壓力。

是果，還是因？

有必要，攪清楚。

Market village to be replaced

The Remington Group is planning to replace the current Market Village, with a all-new 800,000-square-foot behemoth shopping plaza — the Remington Centre.

Is it too much? I think it is. But not so according to our Mayor and Councillor:

[Mayor Frank Scarpitti] said both Pacific Mall and Market Village have been very successful.

They attract visitors to Markham, he said, adding the cluster of retail proposals is expanding that opportunity.

Alex Chiu, councillor for that area, agreed it’s not too much.

When it comes to money, who would say they have just too many?

Tony Wong, Markham’s regional councillor, died yesterday, York Region chairperson and CEO Bill Fisch announced this morning.

Mr. Wong had been battling an undisclosed illness.

Petition on Victim’s Rights

Justice is something that we as Christian should neither overlook nor neglect. Our faith does not concern only things that are spiritual; it must be solidly planted in the world we live in.

…perhaps you may have already heard about the incidence of a supermarket owner in Chinatown (金牛城超市東主陳旺) who was prosecuted with serious crimes like kidnapping, forcible confinement, possession of weapon, etc just becasue who tried to catch a thief and tied him up in order to hand him over to the police. Last Friday, a group called Victim’s Rights Action Committee (VRAC) launched an online petition with a view to urging the Federal government to review the existing Criminal Code and the Crown prosecution to drop the charges against the owner.

I am personally very sympathetic towards the owner and totally agree that he should not be charged with the offences which carry serious punishment. It is totally absurd and sends very bad signal to other shoplifters that they are being “protected”. The consequence of which is catastrophical to the shop owners in Chinatown who have to struggle for the living. I have signed the petition.

While charges have been laid, it is still possible that they can be stayed or withdrawn which is totally within the jurisdiction of the Crwon prosecutor. So the more signatures that VRAC can gather online, the better chance that the charges may be dropped as political pressure has been asserted…
