A friend of mine is seeking advice on the struggle between her field of study and her faith. From her understanding, there seems to be a unreconcilable difference between the two. While I could not understand more how very painful, confused and frustrated the situation can be (I have my own as well), I am glad that something like that does happen to her. For every struggle in faith comes with a genuine urge — an urge to make sense out of what s/he believes in, from where s/he lives. Such struggle illegalizes the sense of indifference, the feeling that faith does not mean anything anymore. Instead, it comes from a deep sense of unwillingness — unwilling to give in to the world, to its idealogies just yet and just like that.
While I have no idea what lies ahead of her in her search for meaning, I am sure it will be a very exciting trip. Keep this urge! Keep this deep sense of unwillingness! The heat is on, the bell has sounded, and here comes the point of no return. Dive in!
Bon Voyage! ¶
