iBook — why or why not?
Can someone please tell me why I should not get a iBook?

I bought my ibook in 2003, just for fun, experimenting on OSX (in order to satisfy my geeky desires). And just because it’s for leisure use, most of the time it is just plugged in the wall unused. After a year of sporadic usage, the battery went dead. I ended up spending another $129 for a new notebook battery. However, my habit did not change, and the battery is almost dead again.
So in other words, if you are not going to use it regularly, better stay away from Apple products.
I have another horror story about my ipod, also related to batteries….but I guess I’ll spare you from that this time.

what if you use it as your work computer? (no programming, no game)

Well, if you are not going to bring it around all the time, (despite the coolness to do so, haha), perhaps a desktop is better. I don’t know, I just have something against laptop batteries.
At any rate, I would recommend spending a little bit more and get the extended warranty (apple care). You just gotta know that Apple is not like Sony, their hardware is not that reliable, given the rate that they pump out new products every 6 months.
Maybe you can try to browse some of those ibook user forums and get a sense of people reporting hardware problems.
