Watch it: God’s Warriors
Anson is urging b/s to watch the new show God’s Warriors on CNN. I watched it last night and with some minor remarks, I urge you to do so as well.

Yeah, it is unfortunate that the “evangelical” label that is supposed to be associated with the noble and pious movements rooted back in the 18th century, has now become so twisted and associated with right wing politics. I think people in general are so fed up with the so-called right-wing “evangelicals”, even if you tell them this label does not necessarily represent every evangelical, they won’t give a damn to tell the difference.
(I remember when George Stroumboulopoulos interviewed Tony Campolo on CBC’s The Hour, even after Tony gave a strong message stating that Christianity is not about how people perceive it is on the media or being represented by the Christian Right, at the end of the show, George slipped in a quick comment under his breath right before he wrapped up his interview saying “that’s why I don’t like Jesus because he sounds like a hippie it’s nice to see you mate.” What does that mean? That probably means, “yeah yeah, whatever you say how Jesus is for the poor, I don’t give a xxxx because I’m still facing those sick evangelicals everyday.”)
It is a fact that we have a bad name to bear. Sometimes the only way I use to comfort myself is to keep reminding myself that even Jesus was constantly being misunderstood, being labeled as Beelzebub, received prejudice, and never received much honour or respect. So why should we? Oh well, but rather than bearing a bad name for the word “Evangelical”, I much rather bear it for “Jesus”.
I guess the toughest challenge for us today is to say to those evangelicals down in the south: “Hey, even though we approach politics and faith differently, we still believe in the same Lord, and I still love you as a brother or sister. And I will not ashamed to be associated with you, no matter how people look at us and call us with names.”
One of my professors at Regent is very keen on this subject and he frequently comments about evangelicalism in North America. Check out his posts about evangelicalism here, especially this one called “Overstepping? Evangelical Leaders and a Palestinian State”
