Market village to be replaced

The Remington Group is planning to replace the current Market Village, with a all-new 800,000-square-foot behemoth shopping plaza — the Remington Centre.

Is it too much? I think it is. But not so according to our Mayor and Councillor:

[Mayor Frank Scarpitti] said both Pacific Mall and Market Village have been very successful.

They attract visitors to Markham, he said, adding the cluster of retail proposals is expanding that opportunity.

Alex Chiu, councillor for that area, agreed it’s not too much.

When it comes to money, who would say they have just too many?

Connecting with Markham¡¦s Invisible Poor – A ¡¥How to¡¦ Workshop

To find poor people in Toronto, one only has to walk up Yonge Street. But to find poor people in York Region is so hard some of us might think there aren¡¦t any. NOT TRUE!
Last year there were over 6000 households on a waiting list for subsidized housing in York Region. Last year the 8 Food Banks in York Region provided food to nearly 50,000 York residents.

Poor people are really high on Jesus¡¦ agenda of people we are meant to know by name. The workshop will instruct us as to where they are, what agencies exist to help them and what we as Christian communities can do to help.
