Jesus Tomb, Talpiot Tomb

Yup, here we go again.

(check out the initial reactions from here, here, here and here).

For me, I am just sick and tired of it and the people who make money from it. I thought about not blogging on this, but I know I will be asked as we get closer to the official release date, so…..

Update (Mar 07 2006):

As the show has been aired in North America and more data has been issued regarding the tomb and ossuaries, I would like to link to a few more learned and concluding remarks:

  1. Has the Tomb of Jesus Been Discovered? (Jodi Magness)
  2. The alleged 'Jesus family tomb' (Richard Bauckham), and Addenda and Corrigenda on Marian Name (Richard Bauckham)
  3. The "Jesus Family Tomb" Statistics: Further Developments (HT: Mark Goodacre)
  4. Statistics And The "Jesus Family Tomb" (Randy Ingermanson)
  5. The Tomb of Jesus and Family? Second Thoughts (Craig Evans)

Unless there is any major revision or discussion on the subject, this is my last post on it.

I know… I even read this on a newspaper in HK. It’s not even broadcasted here.. but the headline is eye-catching.. These things will come up every once in a while. The thing is, they take the discussion up to the level of academics and most of us just cannot say it’s right or wrong unless we understand enough about Jewish traditions and archaelogy (even statistics). Most of us are not trained or equipped. We can only believe what our pastor or the expert says. And these people make their Jesus family tomb website so easy to understand that people can be easily convinced about their so-called

  2. Karen, were you done with your comment?

Somehow the code didn’t work and I refreshed the page.. only part of the comment was left. Let me continue: I’m saying many people can be easily convinced about their so-called “discovery of the lost tomb of Jesus”. I went to their site and it looks like they provide a lot of facts and their research seems unbiased.. however, anyone who has done research and statistics knows you really have to find out the methods of the study in order to criticize what they’re doing. I’m sick of it too, everytime they present a problem and we have to dig deep to find out what’s actually going on. On the good side we can say that everytime we learn something new, but I don’t like people taking advantages of our faith. Or maybe we shouldn’t get too serious with this and someone should make a humorous documentary/movie mocking these novelists and filmmakers who make these claims…

There are so many holes in this Jesus Tomb theory
that even a 3 year old would not believe in it.
DNA? The only solid proof they can have is if they obtained the DNA sample while Jesus is alive (good luck) and compare that against the skeleton remains in the tomb. If there is a match, then come talk to me, otherwise, shut up. All they proof is that there are a married couple called Jesus and Mary and a son Jude. Jesus and Mary are the most common name in the Jews Tradition. So what they have is a couple of Jews got buried together with a son. What is the big deal? What waste of my time!

I also dislike that fact that they like to use buzzwords such as “DNA”, statistical analysis to make the research sound so “scientific”.
To my eyes, they are an insult to the general public.
There is NOTHING scientific about the study.
The tomb was found a long time ago. What is different this time is someone is actually trying to make some $$ out of it. Come on, the “research”
they done can be better spent on doing real reserch
that benefit mankind instead of wasting everyone’s time.
