Arguably the greatest British theologian in the 20th century, T. F. Torrance died today, 2 December 2007.

非也。已故楊牧谷牧師並不算是托倫斯的弟子。當年楊牧師正開始讀博士的時候，托倫斯正要退休，不再收學生，所以楊牧師離開了愛丁堡，轉到劍橋。比楊牧谷稍早到達愛丁堡的余達心牧師，遭遇也類似。

這個我也留意。只是我所說的「弟子」並非單指「博士生」；楊牧在愛丁堡—劍橋年代確實稱托倫斯為「恩師」，可參「伴我前行／尋覓眾生」（忘了那一篇）。

「…後來他【指：托倫斯】跟我的導師（負責生活方面者）說，叫他教我申請一些獎學金的方法，並說願意在他退休後在他家裡指導我【指：博士】研究」《尋覓眾生》，頁262。
如此看來，楊牧離開了愛丁堡，是自己的決定，而非托倫斯不收學生。
