Is still sad that we can only find our “value” through comparing to the others, instead of understanding our truth self and live in a simple and thanksgiving life.

  2. That’s very true too, thanks Vincent.

  3. Yeah, I agree that comparison is a tricky matter. On one hand, it can help us to see things in a new perspective, but on the other hand, it can also put us under a lot of stress when we let our identities be defined by comparing with others.

As I think through this matter more deeply, it seems like we humans are actually “made” to learn our identity through what we encounter. We have this innate ability to imitate, mimic, adopt, compare, model… Perhaps no one can actually learn about themselves entirely through introspection. Self-knowledge always involve an external component. Hence someone said before: We become what we worship (or see). The key is whether we are seeing idols, fallen and imperfect beings, or Jesus Christ the perfecter of humanity.

So let us keep seeing and comparing, but with Jesus as our object of imitation and reflection. As we adore him, may we become more like him everyday. I believe through that kind of seeing and comparison, we will gradually come to know who we are and what being a human being is about.
