Market village to be replaced
The Remington Group is planning to replace the current Market Village, with a all-new 800,000-square-foot behemoth shopping plaza — the Remington Centre.
Is it too much? I think it is. But not so according to our Mayor and Councillor:
[Mayor Frank Scarpitti] said both Pacific Mall and Market Village have been very successful.
They attract visitors to Markham, he said, adding the cluster of retail proposals is expanding that opportunity.
Alex Chiu, councillor for that area, agreed it’s not too much.
When it comes to money, who would say they have just too many?

I guess there’ll definitely be a traffic problem! And, that eliminates what the community has built up in that area (social aspect). If you don’t investigate why these places attract visitors to Markham, but just blow it up and build a bigger mall, what’s the point? Anyhow… just like playing SimCity.
I think it’s a bit too much.

Is all about $$$. A mall contains 100+ taxable stores and the property tax will be raised accordingly both the premise and the stores. There is no way the city will reject the project because of the upsize of the pocket.
Imagine a “non-profit” unit will definitely face another “treatment”.
