10.6 and OpenVanilla
If you happen to be using the new Snow Leopard (10.6) and OpenVanilla to input non-English characters, you might encounter a problem when you are at the login screen under OpenVanilla mode — you can’t type anything and you can’t switch to English input mode either. What do you do?
For the time being, there is no fix yet. But bear in mind that you can enter your password with the Caps Lock key on.

Another quick way is:
System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options, and
check the “Show input menu in login window”.
You will then see the input method when security dialog appears.
